How It Happened

Mitchem gave SF State the early lead in the 18th minute when Luci Gulbransen sent in a corner which Mitchem buried to the back of the net with her right foot towards the lower-left of the goal. The Otters found the equalizer roughly two minutes later when Audrey Reyna made a perfectly-timed cut past the Gator defender, receiving a pass from Tiger Rendon and getting it past Tone to make it 1-1. The Gator defense played well in the first half, facing 14 total shots while only allowing one goal.

The hosts carried over the pressure into the second half with 16 total shots. The Gators struggled to make anything happen offensively, taking just one corner and recording zero shots in the final 45 minutes. Cal State Monterey Bay broke through in the 87th as they intercepted a clear attempt and brought the ball back towards their offensive zone. Rendon dished it to Miye Kodama who one-touched it in a cluttered box for the goal and victory.
