ARCATA, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's basketball battled but fell to host Cal Poly Humbolt 59-55 on Thursday evening at Lumberjack Arena.
- The Gators fall to 2-5 on the year and are 0-2 in CCAA play. The Jacks improved to 2-5 on the year and are 1-1 in conference play.
- SF State shot 32.3 percent on the evening, going 20-for-62, the Gators were 8-for-30 from beyond the arc.
- Two players finished in double figures for the Gators on Thursday led by junior Alexsandra Alvarado's game-high 24 points.
- Alvarado's 24 points is also a season-high and sixth game in double figures this season.
- Ana Daniels finished with 16 points, her sixth game in double figures as well. She also finished with a game-high nine rebounds.
In a back-and-forth contest, the Gators jumped out to an early lead thanks to a 7-0 run midway through the opening period. With 8:40 to play in the second quarter, Jaden Roan hit a 3-point basket to give the Gators a six-point lead, their largest of the evening.
After tying the game up at 15-15, the Jacks went into the intermission leading 21-20 thanks to five second-quarter points from Dailani Richardson.
Early in the second half, the Jacks increased their lead to eight points following a jumper from Dylan Lovett to make it 33-25. A late two by Sanz gave the Jacks a four-point cushion, 42-38, heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final period, the Gators had their chances. An early 7-0 run gave the Gators their first lead since the opening period when Alvarado hit a three to make it 45-42. However, SF State could not put the game away. With the game tied 49-49 with 4:10 to play, Cal Poly Humboldt's Dailani Richardson hit the second of her two 3-point field goals in the fourth quarter to give the Jacks a 52-49 lead. The Jacks were able to put the game away thanks to free throws down the stretch.
