By the Numbers

  • SF State moves to 4-6 overall and opens CCAA action at 1-1. CSUSB also moves to 1-1 in CCAA play and is 4-3 overall.
  • Kai DeLeon, coming off of CCAA Player of the Week honors, had her seven-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-2 game in game one. Still, she was hit by a pitch to begin the fifth inning and scored the Gators' first run. She scored in each game and has now scored a run in six consecutive games. She recorded a hit in game two and continues to lead the team with a .400 batting average.
  • Marley Gonzales went 2-for-6 with a double, a run scored, three walks, and a pair of stolen bases.
  • Daniella Guerrera went 4-for-6 with two RBI, a run, and a walk.

How They Scored

  • Tereise Tosi gave the Coyotes the early advantage when she sent a 2-0 pitch out for a two-out home run in the bottom of the first. Another long ball grew the Coyotes lead to 3-0 in the fourth when designated player Mia Escujuri homered to left.
  • After stranding a pair in the first and leaving the bases loaded in the third inning, the Gators got all of the offense they needed in the top of the fifth inning. DeLeon was hit, Marley Gonzales walked, and Guerrera loaded the bases with an infield single. DeLeon scored on Phoebe Schultz's sac fly, then Kira Nilson drove home a run with a single to left that chased Coyotes starter Brooke Blackmon. Lexi Holihan greeted reliever Samantha Vargas with a two-run single through the right side that gave the Gators the lead for good.

How They Scored

  • Takeda-Bajan struggled with her command to begin game two. She hit the leadoff batter and walked a pair, including one with the bases loaded. Bri Goris' bases-loaded single doubled the lead to 2-0.
  • CSUSB grew its lead to 5-0 with a three-run second.
  • The Gators got a run back in the third on doubles from Mia Misasi and Guerrera but gave it back in the bottom half of the inning. The Gators kept a run off the board when the defense cut down a runner at home but Brazil's single up the middle made it 6-1.
  • SF State scored in the fifth. DeLeon singled and later scored on another Guerrera infield single to make it 6-2.
  • CSUSB added another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a sac fly from Emilie Lapena.
