HAYWARD, Calif. — Alexsandra Alvarado dropped a career-high 42 points but San Francisco State fell to Cal State East Bay 91-86 in overtime to end the season.
- SF State ends the season at 5-22 overall and 4-18 in CCAA action. East Bay also closed out their season with a record of 11-18 and 9-13 in the CCAA
- Alvarado is the first player to score over 30 points since 2017. She also finished eight shy of tying the conference record. She finishes the season tied for third in free throws made (146) and tied for fourth in points scored (446).
- Felix Imani and Sage Bridges-Bey also hit double figures with 17 and 13 points respectively.
- Fouls were an issue for both sides with the Gators recording 29 and the Pioneers recording 24.
- East Bay secured 62 rebounds compared to San Francisco's 30.
Bridges-Bay hit back-to-back threes and Alvarado added a fast break lay-up to take an early 8-2 lead with 7:47 left in the first. Alvarado scored three straight baskets late in the quarter for a 7-3 scoring run to increase the lead to 22-14.
Imani Felix hit a lay-up as time was expiring to close out the quarter with a 24-16 lead.
The Gators would lead by as much as 14 in the second quarter but the Pioneers would cut the lead down to four with a pair of made free throws in the last 14 seconds of the quarter. For the second straight quarter, Felix had ice in her veins and hit a buzzer beater lay-up to give the Gators a 44-38 lead.
The Pioneers came back within two points in the fourth but foul trouble benefited the Gators greatly as they reached the bonus with 5:38 to go. The Pioneers took advantage of poor turnovers late in the game. A steal from Abigail Cooper led to a lay-up by Taylor Linzie to give East Bay their first lead of the night at 80-79 with 52 second to go. Alvarado drew contact on the next possession and made one basket at the line to tie it up. East Bay turned the ball over with four seconds left but the Gators could not hit the winning basket.
East Bay took a 87-86 lead with 1:15 remaining. The Gators shot missed on the next possession. East Bay shot and missed with 14 seconds to go but grabbed the offensive board, forcing the Gators to foul. The Pioneers extended their lead to 89-86 with eight seconds to go. Alvarado tried to extend the game with a three but the shot fell short.
