ATHERTON, Calif. — The San Francisco State wrestling team finished in second place out of eight teams on Saturday at the Oaks Open.
Johnny Lopez and
Lawrence Saenz finished in first place at 141 lb. and 149 lb., respectively, as nine of the Gators' eleven wrestlers placed fourth place or better.
At 125 lb.,
Zach Wright finished in third place by pinning teammate
Hayden Ancheta, who finished in fourth place.
Tony Margiotta bounced back from suffering a fall to earn two decisions and a 17-1 tech fall en route to a third-place finish at 133 lb. Lopez secured the 141 lb. weight class by earning a 5-3 decision over
Sean Yamasaki, who finished second. Saenz, who is currently ranked No. 9 by The Open Mat at 149 lb., won by tech fall and added a pair of falls to his résumé to secure the top spot in his weight class. Teammate
Zane Stoddard forfeited to Saenz and finished third. At 157 lb.,
Kydyn Lima finished fourth, and
Conrado Trevino-Oceguera rounded out the Gators' placers with a third-place finish at 165 lb.
