2023-24 All-RMAC Wrestling

WRE | Seven Grapplers Earn RMAC All-Wrestling Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Francisco State wrestler Basil Othamn has been named to the 2023-24 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Wrestling Team at Second Team at 157 lb. Six other Gators garnered an honorable mention. All-conference rosters are voted on by the league's eight head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for themselves or their own student-athletes for any awards.

Kyle Botelho (165 lb.), Emilio Franco Sandoval (285 lb.), Tony Margiotta (133 lb.), Gage Mettler (174 lb.), Lawrence Saenz (149 lb.), and Zach Wright (125 lb.) all earned Honorable Mention.

Othman is headed to Nationals after a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II Super Regional VI. He went 16-4 overall, including 8-1 in duals.

Botelho placed second at the NCAA Division II Super Regional VI and went 15-7 and 7-3 in duals.

Franco-Sandoval finished fifth at Regionals and went 15-10, including 9-4 in duals.

Margiotta placed fourth at Regionals and finished his senior campaign with a 14-6 record, including 7-1 in duals.

Mettler is currently ranked No. 17 by The Open Mat, and capped his senior season with a fourth-place finish, going 16-7 overall and 7-3 in duals.

Saenz, who has been nationally-ranked at times through out the year and is currently ranked No. 7 by The Open Mat, finished in fifth place at Regionals and posted a 17-5 overall record and 8-1 dual record.

Wright transitioned weight classes from 133 to 125. He won his last six bouts before Regionals and finishe dthe season at 9-10, splitting his four dual matches.

As a team, the Gators finished the season at 8-5 overall and 4-4 in RMAC duals. Botelho and Othman will pack their bags for the 2024 DII wrestling championship, March 15-16 in Wichita, Kansas at Hartman Arena. A bracket release will be released at 12:30 p.m. ET on Friday, March 8.
