How They Scored

  • Stenson got the Gators on the board again in game two but in a big-time way. In the top of the second, she launched a 2-2 pitch over the right field wall for an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Gators doubled their lead in the top of the fourth. Daniella Guerrera led off with a single and pinch runner Emily Madrigal scored from second on Kira Nilson's single to left field.
  • However, the Gators failed to secure a shutdown inning and the Cougars capitalized on three errors for three unearned runs and a 3-2 lead.
  • CSUSM added another run in the fifth with another Prater two-out RBI single.
  • Marley Gonzales started off the top of the sixth with a single and moved up to third two batters later when Schultz singled to left center. Olivia Clavero pinch ran for Schultz and stole second. Stenson went down swinging for the second out but Nilson delivered the game-tying hit, a double to right on a 1-0 pitch. She moved to third on a passed ball but was stranded.
  • The Cougars threatened in the bottom of the sixth but this time the Gators got the shutdown inning. CSUSM chased starter Mari Takeda Bajan after a walk to Paige Donnelly put two on with one out. Elise Roy induced a fielder's choice for the second out, then walked Savannah Coyle to load the bases. However she got a flyout to center to keep the game tied at 4-4. Both teams stranded a pair in the seventh, and the Cougars left a runner in scoring position in the eighth.
  • DeLeon led off the tenth with an infield single and the Cougars went to the bullpen. Sloss got two quick outs before a Schultz single put runners on the corners. Stenson ripped a hard-hit ball towards Waymire at third and she couldn't handle it, which allowed DeLeon to score the go-ahead run. In the bottom of the tenth, Makenzie Guiliano recorded a lead-off triple but Roy got the top of the order out by way of lineout, groundout, and popup.
