SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team was able to work the bases and capitalized with runners on to take a 9-5 win over Cal State LA. The Gators drew nine walks on the day.
- SF State improves to 24-19 and 18-15 in the CCAA while Cal State LA falls to 20-23 and 14-19 in the CCAA.
- Jacob French went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. The freshman now has 63 hits on the season.
- Daniel Santos, who went 1-for-3, now has 161 career hits and moves into seventh all-time.
- In addition to the nine walks, the Gators were hit by pitch three times. Nicholas Allred had a game high three walks.
- Mickey Radanovich came in to pinch run in the sixth and scored his first career run.
- The Gators had four sacrifice hits on the day.
- Santos, French and Derek Laferriere all had stolen bases.
Three straight singles from the Golden Eagles led to a run to open the first. French drew a walk with his first at-bat, scurried to third off a failed pick-off and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. A sac fly by Javy Espinoza allowed LA to retake the lead in the seventh. The Gators had runners on the corners with no outs in the fourth. Kyle Olympia hit into a double play but Santos was able to come home to tie the game up at 2-2.
The Gators used a big two-out rally in the sixth to take the lead and momentum of the game. Allred drew a walk and
Johnny Alvarez was plunked to load the bases up. A wild pitch allowed everyone to advance and
Anthony Alvarez drew a walk to load the bases again. Starting pitcher Owen Hunt's day was done after that. New pitcher Michael Gill entered the game and hit Laferriere with his first pitch to extend the lead to 4-2. French hit an 2 RBI single to left to add on to the lead. LA's Kai Penuelas hit a solo home run in the seventh and Espinoza hit an RBI single to cut the Gators lead to 6-4.
Schrader scored on a wild pitch in the seventh and Santos scored off a bunt to get those two runs back in the bottom of the seventh.
River Diaz De Leon added an insurance run with an RBI up the left side. In the top of the ninth with two outs, a wild pitch allowed the runner on third to score but the Golden Eagles could not rally past that.
- Ryan Garza (5-2) was composed through seven innings, allowing nine hits, fours runs with three being earned and no walks. He added six strikeouts on the day as well.
- Ethan Remmers closed out the game, giving up three hits, tossing two strikeouts and only giving up one run with two outs in the ninth. No walks were delivered between him and Garza.
- Owen Hunt (5-6) went 5.2 innings in the loss, giving up only four hits but also allowed six runs with five earned and six walks. He also threw three wild pitches with two leading to runs scored.
