MANHEIM, Pa. — The San Francisco State wrestling team has been named a 2024 National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 Scholar-Athlete Team. The Gators ranked No. 19 with a 3.248 team GPA.
Additionally, nine San Francisco State grapplers have been named to the 2023-24 NWCA Division II Scholar All-America Team, up one from a year ago. The Gators were represented by
Hayden Ancheta,
Brayden Concepcion,
Laith Gilmore,
Josiah Hurd,
Kydyn Lima,
Tony Margiotta,
Gage Mettler,
Basil Othman, and
Sean Yamasaki. Gilmore has now earned the honor twice while Margiotta and Yamasaki have earned the distinction three times in their careers.
On the individual side, a total of 368 individuals from 62 institutions were honored as Scholar All-American. This marks the most institutions and individuals honored in the history of the award. UIndy was the top team with a 3.480 GPA. The Greyhounds also led the individual side with 16 wrestlers honored. A total of 41 student-athletes honored had perfect 4.0 GPAs.
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships and a 3.0 for those who were All-Americans at the 2024 Nationals. Wrestlers must have competed in four dates of competition.
