By the Numbers

  • SF State moves to 15-20 and to 11-13 in CCAA play. The Gators remain in sixth place behind Cal State San Marcos.
  • The second-place Toros earn the series win and move to 23-13 on the year and to 16-10 in conference action.
  • Kai DeLeon had a hit in game one and two in game two. The second baseman has now reached safely in 32 of the Gators' 35 games this season. She went 4-for-10 in the series and leads the team with a .336 batting average.
  • Kira Nilson collected two hits in game one and Marley Gonzales had a two-hit game in game two.
  • The Gators got home runs from Rylee McDaniel and Daniella Guerrera. Both were those players' first homers of the year and the 14th total for the team. Ten different Gators have now hit a home run this season.
  • SF State was again without its regular left fielder and home run leader, Phoebe Schultz. Prior to missing both games on Friday, Schultz had appeared in and started 30 of the team's 31 games.
  • The Gators were outhit 8-6 in game one. Both teams had nine hits apiece in game two.

How They Scored

  • CSUDH scored the first six runs of the game and built a 6-0 lead by the fourth inning. A throwing error in the infield opened the game and led to a pair of unearned Toros runs in the first inning.
  • Jay Ross led off the third with a single and scored all the way from first on Mariah Ramirez's double to right center.
  • A two-out rally proved costly in the fourth inning. A dropped ball in the infield kept the inning alive and leadoff batter Alexis Aguado walked to load the bases. A run scored on an error, then Ross singled home two more runs.
  • SF State's offense finally started to find its rhythm in the sixth inning. With one out, Gonzales tripled to left center, then scored on a Nilson single to left center.

  • Mari Takeda Bajan (5-9) went three and two thirds innings. She was charged with six runs on seven hits but just one run was earned.
  • Kaitlyn Maddux came out of the bullpen for her first appearance since injuring her ankle at the Tournament of Champions. Maddux surrendered a hit to the first batter she saw but settled in for three and a third innings of relief. She faced just two over the minimum and only allowed the one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Mariah Ramirez (16-6) allowed two runs on six hits in a complete-game effort for the Toros. She did not issue a walk and struck out five.

How They Scored

  • Aguado drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a Ramirez double to right field. The Gators limited the damage when DeLeon threw home to Gonzales to get Ross out at home but Kaylee Hull followed with a single back up the middle to make it 2-0 early.
  • The Gators got a run back in the bottom of the first. Gonzales recorded her second triple of the day and Nilson singled her home to cut the lead in half.
  • DeLeon led the third inning off with a double over the left fielder's head, then Gonzales bunted a ball that died in front of home plate. DeLeon moved up easily and Gonzales ran to first with no play as the Toros waited to see if the ball would go foul. With DeLeon at third, Gonzales stole second, then DeLeon scored on a Nilson groundout. Lexi Holihan came through with a two-out single to right field to give the Gators the 3-2 lead.
  • In the fourth inning, McDaniel, who came in to play right field in the third inning, crushed a homer in her first at-bat. The ball cleared the wall in center for McDaniel's first homer of the year.
  • Guerrera launched her first homer of the season, a solo shot to left field, in the fifth inning to make it 5-2.
