By the Numbers

  • The No. 3 seed Toros improve to 34-17 and will face the No. 2 seed and host, Cal State San Marcos, on Thursday at 1 p.m.
  • SF State, who earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament, finishes the season at 21-27.
  • Prior to the game, the Gators' All-CCAA honorees were recognized: Second Team selection Kai DeLeon (second base), Daniella Guerrera (outfield), Elise Roy (pitcher), and Honorable Mention Marley Gonzales (catcher).
  • San Francisco State also brings home the CCAA Elite 13 Award, which was awarded to outfielder Kira Nilson. The CCAA Elite 13 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating in each CCAA-Sponsored Championship.
  • Mariah Ramirez powered the Toros with a three-hit complete game in the circle and drove in four at the plate with a pair of two-run homers.
  • Ramirez limited SF State to three hits off the bats of DeLeon, Lexi Holihan, and Nilson.

How They Scored

  • Jay Ross opened the bottom of the first with a leadoff walk and, despite the wind blowing out, pitcher Mariah Ramirez followed with a two-run homer to dead center that put the Gators in an early 2-0 hole. Kaylee Hull then doubled to right before starter Elise Roy settled down after that and retired the next five batters.
  • However, a two-out error in the bottom of the second kept the inning alive for the Toros. Roy walked the next batter and another infield error allowed a run to score, putting the Toros up 3-0. CSUDH loaded up the bases  but Roy got out of it.
  • CSUDH added two more in the fourth on Ramirez's second homer of the day, her league-leading 19th of the season.
  • Gators got on the board in the sixth. Rylee McDaniel walked, DeLeon doubled to left center, and McDaniel later scored on a Guerrera groundout. However, the Toros limited the damage and DeLeon was stranded at third.
  • The Toros got the run back in the bottom of the sixth on Hull's RBI single back up the middle.

In The Circle

  • Roy (13-9) struggled with her command. Just 39 of her 74 pitches were for strikes. She was charged with four runs, three earned, and issued three walks.
  • Kaitlyn Maddux gave up the Ramirez homer in the fourth. She allowed three hits and was charged with two runs over the final three innings. The senior added four strikeouts in her final outing, bringing her career total to 177, seventh most in program history.
  • Ramirez (20-7) did not allow a hit until the fifth, a Nilson single. She walked two and struck out four.
