SB | Five Gators Named CSC Academic All-District®

SAN FRANCISCO — Five San Francisco State softball players have been named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Softball Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators.

Kai DeLeon, Daniella Guerrera, Lexi Holihan, Kira Nilson, and Phoebe Schultz represented the Gators for 2023-24. DeLeon, Guerrera, and Nilson all earn the honor for the second time in their careers.

The program recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in 90 percent of the team's games or must start in at least 66 percent of the team's games. For pitchers, it is 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.

DeLeon, the Gators' junior second baseman, started all 48 games and earned All-CCAA Second Team honors for the third time in her career. The Turlock, California native led the Gators in batting (.311), OBP (.409), AB (151), hits (47), runs (31), walks (22), and total bases (59).  Her 21 stolen bases are second on the team and third in the CCAA and her 47 career steals currently rank seventh all-time in program history. She was also named the February 12 CCAA Player of the Week. A Pscyhology major, DeLeon has been selected as a CSC Academic All-America® finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 18, 2024.

Guerrera also appeared in all 48 games and was an All-CCAA Second Team member. The junior outfielder from Folsom, California made 47 starts and led the team with 27 RBI and was second on the team in batting .301/.348/.399 and hits (43). She also tallied 14 runs, 12 walks, a home run, and was 4-for-4 on the basepaths. 

Holihan returned to the lineup as the Gators' regular third baseman in 2024 after missing last season due to injury. This season, the Folsom, California native appeared in all 48 games with 46 starts. She batted .254 with 33 hits, including ten doubles. A Kinesiology major, Holihan added a home run, 14 RBI, and eight runs.

Nilson started all 48 games for the Gators and batted .259 with 20 RBI, 12 runs scored, and eight stolen bases. The junior outfielder posted a 1.000 fielding percentage and was recognized with the CCAA Elite 13 Award, which recognizes the CCAA student-athlete with the highest academic standard among her peers at the conference tournament. The Martinez, California native boasts a 4.0 GPA and is studying Kinesiology.

Schultz started 43 games for the Gators and slashed .259/.352/.741. She added four home runs, 20 RBI, eight runs, and 14 walks. A native of Snohomish, Washington, Schultz graduated with a degree in Sociology.

The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America® program.
