French becomes the third Gator to earn conference Freshman of the Year Honors, joining current teammate
Daniel Santos and Mark Lindsay who earned it in 2012. The freshman from Benicia made an immediate impact to the line-up and sits in the top ten in several categories in the conference at the end of the regular season including doubles (17, T-second), hits (72, third), triples (four, T-third), runs (50, fifth) and batting average (.362, eighth). The two-way player also made 10 appearances on the mound, posting a 3-1 record with a 6.39 ERA and 13 strikeouts.Â
Like French, Johnson has been a big boost to the offense. The clean-up hitter has a conference leading 65 RBIs on the season and is in the top ten in several other categories in the conference including home runs (14, second) hits (71, tied-third) OPS (1.099, third) batting average (.366, fifth) and doubles (16, T-sixth). Johnson made history in the series finale by hitting four home runs in one game and becoming the first CCAA Player to do so since 2010.
Garza led the conference with 72 strikeouts on the season. In 14 appearances and 13 starts, he posted a 4.29 ERA through 77.2 innings and 5-2 record with a save. Garza set his season high in strikeouts (eight) in his second game played against Western Oregon and matched it two more times during the season.
Laferriere provided a reliable bat in the line-up and a strong defensive presence behind the plate. He sits second on the team and seventh in the conference in batting average (.363) and second in on base percentage (.491). His 27 walks ranked ninth in the conference. Laferriere also proved to be a threat on the bases with ten stolen bases. Behind the plate, Laferriere threw out 16 base runs and tied for the most in the conference.
Eichhorn provided a strong arm to close out series for the Gators. He played in 13 games with 12 starts, going 77 innings with a 4.79 ERA and 60 strikeouts to a 4-4 record. Eichhorn earned CCAA Pitcher of the Week twice on the season.
