SAN FRANCISCO - Five San Francisco State women's track & field athletes have been named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District® track & field and cross country team, as selected by
College Sports Communicators.
Madison Algarin,
Mattie Cecilio,
Viviann Luong,
Katy O'Brien and
Mina Tsai all represent the Gators for the 2024 season. Cecilio and Luong earn the honor for the second time in their careers.
Algarin completed her track & field career at the CCAA Championships, recording personal best marks in the Heptathlon and Javelin. The junior from Sunnyvale is majoring in Communication Studies & Business Administrations.
Cecilio will graduate with the second best marks at SF State in the triple jump in both indoor and outdoor track & field. A two-time All-West Region Athlete, Cecilio competed at NCAAs during the 2023 season. A graduate transfer from UC San Diego, Cecilio will earn a MBA from SF State.
Luong wrapped her season running a personal best 15.22 seconds in the 100m hurdle at the CCAA Championships. The Santa Clara native is majoring in Asian American Studies.
O'Brien broke the 15 second mark with a time of 14.97 in the 100m hurdle at CCAA's to reach the finals the next day. The sophomore from Orangevale is majoring in Computer Science.
Tsai ran a personal best time of 24.79 in the 200m in the final regular season meet of the season. She helped the 4x100 relay team place fourth at CCAA Championships. The junior from San Jose is majoring in Kinesiology.
To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at her current institution. Eligible nominees will be based off of
TFRRS performance list rankings at the time of nomination. The individual must have a top 50 in the region in a single event (XC, indoor or outdoor) - must be an individual performance, not a relay performance indoor or outdoor track.
The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America® program.
