SAN FRANCISCO - Three San Francisco State baseball players have been named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators.

Justin Johnson, Daniel Santos and Nathan Shinn earned Academic Honors with Santos and Shinn earning it for the second time in their careers.

Johnson picks up another postseason honor after racking up several regional and national honors after a spectacular first year with the Gators. He became the first Gator to earn All-American status since 2010 after being named to the D2CCA Third Team. Johnson had one of the best single seasons in program history and finished the 2024 campaign slashing .374/.429/.660. He broke the program single season RBI record with 72. The Sacramento, California native ranks among the Top 20 in NCAA Division II in hits, RBI, and total bases. His 88 hits are 16h in the nation and one shy of the program record, his 15 home runs are the second most by a Gator in a single season, and his 20 doubles are tied for third-most in a single season. Johnson led the Gators in batting average (.374), slugging (.660), hits (88), RBI (72), runs (55), total bases (155), and home runs (15). A Business major, Johnson has been selected as a CSC Academic All-America® finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 25, 2024.

Santos was the only player to start and play every game for the Gators, setting a new single season record with 60 appearances. The everyday right fielder slashed .302/.413/.421 and was third on the team in hits (71) and runs (50). Santos hit eight doubles, one triple and six home runs. His 186 career hits ranks fourth all-time. A native of Hacienda Heights, Santos is majoring in Criminal Justice.

Shinn broke the program record for strikeouts in his junior season and currently has 190 strikeouts. The left-handed pitcher from Pleasanton made 17 appearances with 13 starts and posted a 6.42 ERA while throwing 63 strikeouts. In all four appearances out of the bullpen, Shinn picked up a save.

The program recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in 90 percent of the team's games or must start in at least 66 percent of the team's games. For pitchers, it is 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched.
