REDDING, Calif. — The #21 San Francisco State wrestling team had a busy Thursday with three matches at Simpson. They beat Corban 33-21 and Simpson 45-12 but lost to Southern Oregon 30-6.
SF State's light weights got the Gators off to a hot start against Corban with Hayden Ancheta winning by tech fall and Zach Wright by major decision to go up 9-0. A forfeit at 149lbs and pins from Basil Othmen and Kyle Bothelo put the Gators up 27-3. Corban came back to make the match close with a pair of pins at 174lb and 184lb and a win by forfeit at 197lb. But Corban forfeited the heavyweight match-up, giving the Gators the victory.
The Gators didn't pick up a victory against Southern Oregon until Bothelo won by decision 7-4 at 165lbs. A couple of pins in the next two duals put the win out of reach but Nathan Glass closed out the match on a high note with a 6-3 win at heavyweight.
It was all Gators against Simpson with the Gators winning every match they suited an athlete up for. The Gators had six pins against the Redhawks including Illia Borshchenko's first of the season and Hayden Ancheta's in 24 seconds.
