How It Happened

The Gators got off to an early lead in the first. Darté had back-to-back three's and Bradley made three shots at the line to give the Gators a 23-14 lead with 1:33 to go. Lowenberg made a pair of shots at the line and a three to cut the Gator's lead to four points before the end of the quarter. The Gators opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run and forced several East Bay turnovers. East Bay chipped away at the lead throughout the rest of the quarter and took its first lead with 53 seconds left. The lead was short lived as Blecha made a three-point basket to give the Gators a 37-35 lead at halftime.

In a close third quarter, the Pioneers were able to pull ahead slightly. Darte made a pair of shots at the line to cut the lead to 51-49 heading into the final frame. The Pioneers extend their lead to 11 points with 3:48 remaining. The Gators were able to come within one down 66-65 with 20 seconds remaining. With four seconds left and still down by one, the Gators fouled to send East Bay to the line. The Pioneers made both shots and the Gators couldn't get a shot off to send the game into overtime.
