SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State wrestling team split a pair of home duals on Saturday afternoon. With a pair of Gators out for the day, SF State fell short against Cal Poly Humboldt 27-22. The Gators bounced back against Vanguard and won 38-6.
After the 157lb match between SF State and Humboldt, the Gators honored seniors Boltyn Taam, Steven Karas and Sean Yamasaki.
Humboldt led early with a pin at 125. Wright got the Gators on the board with a close 1-0 decision. The Gators found themselves in an early hole with the next two matches going down as forfeits. Yamasaki wrestled up from his normal 149 and came through with a major decision victory over Gil Mossburg. After a decision from Kyle Botelho, Kydyn Lima closed the gap with a pin in 53 seconds to cut the lead to two. Kevein Clements Jr. was pinned in the final moments of his dual at 185 but Steven Karas pinned his opponent in the first period to cut the Lumberjacks' lead to 24-22. Laith Gilmore had a chance to win it for the Gators but Carson Hatch was able to secure a takedown early and ride it out.

Kusumoto and Wright won by decision and major decision before the Gators gave up the only points of the dual with Vanguard with a forfeit at 141. Yamasaki and Botelho won by decision and major decision to put the Gators up 14-6. With a forfeit at 174, Clements secured a pin with 26 seconds remaining in the dual to put the Gators up 26-6. Similar to his teammate, De Matos closed out the dual with a late pin to give him two on the day.
