Carson, Calif. – The No. 19 San Francisco State softball team split Saturday's doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills and, in doing so, lost its first series of the season. The Gators snapped their three-game losing streak with a 10-3 victory but fell 9-8 in eight innings in the series finale.
- SF State, which is ranked No. 19 in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, moves to 26-12 overall and remain in second place in the CCAA at 13-9. The Toros move to 23-16 overall and 10-10 in conference play.
- Sophomore Elise Roy notched her 11th win of the season. She now has 24 career victories. Just three more will move her into the Top 10 of the program's career leaders.
- Rylee McDaniel launched her seventh home run of the year in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. She is tied for second among CCAA batters. She finished the series 6-for-11 with three home runs and 8 RBI.
- Shaunessy Cardwell, Marley Gonzales, and Daniella Guerrera all launched home runs as well, bringing the team's season total to 13.
- Daniella Guerrera drove home in three runs. She now has 93 on her career, which ties Kendra Wood (2008-11) for eighth all time.
- Kai DeLeon had four hits on the day. She has 199 in her career. She has now passed Courtney Gravel (2012-15) and is currently tied with Karolyn Gubbine (2007-10) for fifth all-time in program history.
- The Gators turned their 21st double play of the season, which is second most in the CCAA.
- SF State had 26 hits on the day, giving them 303 on the season. SF State racked up 16 hits in the series finale but came away empty. The 16 hits are tied for eighth most in a single game by a Gators team dating back to 2013.
Game 1
- The Gators got on the board first in the third. McDaniel drew a leadoff walk and moved up on a sac bunt, which chased starter Ashley Ogata. DeLeon greeted reliever Lillianna Garcia with an RBI double and Gonzales followed with a two-run shot to center field for a 3-0 Gators lead.
- CSUDH got two runs back in the bottom of the third on an RBI double from Jay Ross and a sac fly from Torie Au.
- SF State added a run back in the fourth on Kira Nilson's RBI single, and another in the sixth on Ashley Rocha's RBI groundout.The Gators blew the game open with a five-run seventh. Gonzales singled, Guerrera walked, Holihan drew a one-out walk,
- Nilson cranked a two-out, two-run double to left field, and McDaniel capped the rally off with a three-run shot to center.
- The Toros scored a run in the seventh on a double play ball.
- Roy (11-5) went the distance. She gave up three runs on nine hits. She walked three and struck out three.
- The Toros used four pitchers. Ogata gave up a run in two and a third innings. Garcia (13-2) allowed three runs on two hits in just two thirds of an inning and was charged with the loss.
Game 2
- The Gators spotted CSUDH a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first, including a three-run homer for Mireya Rico, who went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI in the game.
- McDaniel drove in another run in the top of the second and Nilson scored on a double steal attempt, but Rico drove another run home in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-2.
- Cardwell homered in the third to cut the lead to 6-4 but the Toros answered yet again with an RBI fielder's choice.
- SF State took the lead in the fourth. Gonzales singled home McDaniel and Guerrera launched a three-run homer to center to put SF State up 8-7.
- The Toros tied the game in the sixth on Rico's RBI double to right center.
- The Gators had two on and one out in the top of the eighth but were unable to bring a run home, and Ross homered to right for the walkoff.
- Mari Takeda Bajan struggled in an inning and a third. She surrendered six runs on seven hits. She walked three and struck out one.
- Kharime Caratachea (2-3) allowed three runs on six hits over six innings in relief but took the loss. She walked three.
- Ogata (5-7) was one of three Toros to pitch in the finale and picked up the win. She went seven and a third innings and gave up four runs on 11 hits.
