SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco State baseball's
Nathan Shinn has been selected as the NBCWA Baseball West Region Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21-27.
Shinn is the second pitcher on the Gator's pitching staff to earn the honor after David Eichhorn earned the honor earlier this season.
Shinn pitched eight shutout innings in relief to lead the Gators to a win in the series opener against Cal State East Bay. The left-hander entered the game in the third inning with his team already trailing 2-0. He gave up a hit to the first batter he faced, which extended the lead to 4-0, but he would allow only six hits and no walks the rest of the game. The Gators would battle back with runs in each of the last three innings before walking off when Michael Cunningham scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning. Shinn struck out six and was not charged with an earned run.
San Francisco State (29-16, 24-12 CCAA) won three of the four games over Cal State East Bay to move into a tie for first place with Cal State Dominguez Hills (28-17, 24-12 CCAA). The Gators are also one game ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay (30-15, 23-13 CCAA), and they will conclude their regular season with a four-game series against the Otters starting on Thursday, May 1.
