How It Happened

The Gators exploded for six runs to open the game. Cunningham drew a walk, stole second and came home off an RBI single to right by Nicholas Allred. With a pair of runners in scoring position, Johnson grounded out to advance both runners and add another run. Laferriere hit a sharp ball to second for an RBI single. Bases were loaded for Santos and he took a pitch to the side to draw a bases loaded RBI hit by pitch. The Toros looked to keep the deficit to 4-0 but the first baseman could not grab the throw for the out and the ball ricocheted in the Gator dugout for everyone to advance two bases.

Eichhorn's no-hit bid ended on the first pitch in the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot over left from Noah Karliner. In the top of the fifth, Johnson and Laferriere each singled and Stephen Espinoza singled to right to put runners on the corners and score one. AJ Schrader grounded out to the pitcher to bring another run home. Murillo barreled the ball up the middle to extend the lead to 9-1. The Toros got the threes runs back off a two-out home run by Trey Winget and a solo shot by Quinn Johnson in the bottom of the inning.

Santos hit a two-run home run in the seventh to extend the lead to 11-4. The Toros made things interesting in the later innings. Quinn Johnson hit a two RBI single and Karliner hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 11-7. The Toros loaded the bases in the eighth with two outs, but Anthony Alvarez tossed a three-pitch strikeout to get out of the jam. The Gators had the same situation in the ninth and gave up a walk to allow a run to come home but struck out the next batter.
