IRVINE, Calif. - The San Francisco State softball team played its first extra innings game of the season and walked it off when
Malia Morreira hit an RBI single to deliver a 6-5 win in eight innings.
- The Gators close out the weekend 3-2.
- Shaunessy Cardwell and Olivia Mares were named to the Concordia Kick-off All-Tournament Team. Cardwell went 7-fo-14 at the plate with four doubles and led the team with seven RBIs. Mares hit .400 on the weekend, drew a team-high five walks and swiped a team-high nine bags.
- Mares had three walks and three stolen bases against Western Oregon and record two runs.
- Morreira and Taylor Wilson both went 3-for-4 at the plate and had two RBIs
- The Gators only struck out three times.
Mares drew a lead-off walk, stole second and ran home when Morreira hit a double down the right field line. With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the third, Marissa Jordan hit a sac fly to double up the Gators' lead. The Gators had two base runners on and almost navigated out of the jam but a triple from Madelynne Hommel tied the game up. The Gators had a pair of runners in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the inning. Wilson hit an RBI single to give the Gators the lead back could not bring anyone else home.
Western Oregon took its first lead of the game with an inside the park home run that plated three runs and put the Wolves up 5-3. With runners on first and second and one out, Wilson singled up the middle to get the Gators within one. The Gators loaded the bases with a walk and Mia Pamplona hit a sac fly to tie the game. Olivia Moscardi came in to pinch hit and singled to right field but the throw from right to home got Wilson out. The Wolves sac bunted the runner on second in the top of the eight to third. The next batter was walked but the Gators struck out the next batter and induced a ground out to head to the bottom of the inning tied. Similar to the top of the inning, the Gators used a sac bunt to move the runner over to third and the next batter was walked. Morreira singled to left, allowing the runner at third to score.
- Alexis Perez (2-1) held it down in the circle and went all eight innings. She struck out seven batters and gave up 10 hits, five runs and two walks
- Western Oregon deployed four pitchers with Penny-Lew Barnett (0-2) taking the loss in relief.
