COSTA MESA, Calif. - The San Francisco State wrestling team competed at the second MPSF Championships. Four Gators won their weight classes. As a team, the Gators earned 118.5 points and placed third.

Hayden Ancheta placed first at 125lb. He took down Roberto Lopez 9-3 in the semifinal rounds and had a big 19-3 win in the finals over Erik Ramirez. Both Basil Othmen and Kydyn Lima dominated their opponents to place first at 157lb and 174lb respectively. Othman won by major decision 13-2 to advance to the finals and only needed 1:12 to pin his opponent in the first round. Lima made quick work of his opponent in the semi final rounds and pinned him in 2:06. He won 14-4 in the finals to win back-to-back championships at 174lb.

Felipe De Matos had one of the most impressive performances of the weekend. Wrestling in his first event of the season, De Matos trailed 5-3 in the third period. With nine seconds left, he recorded a takedown and held on to his opponent for the win. In the final match, he recorded a takedown near the end of the first period and secured his victory with a pair of takedowns in the final period.

Kyle Botelho dropped a tough match to defend his title. Tied at 5-5 against Kanaipono Tapia, the match looked like is was going to go into overtime but Menlo made a challenge on a call and nine seconds were put on the clock with Tapia on the bottom. Tapia escaped before time expired and took the win.
