SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State wrestling program announces the creation of the Morris X. Johnson Scholar Athlete Wrestling Endowment. Johnson wrestled for the Gators for two seasons and was an All-American Heavyweight in 1983 and 1984. He placed second at NCAAs in 1983 and capped off his collegiate career with a championship in 1984.
Morris X. Johnson rose from modest beginnings to become a national and international wrestling champion, scholar-athlete, therapist and school psychologist, coach, and mentor. He combined exceptional achievement with humility, empathy, hard work, and a commitment to giving back.
Morris changed lives. His influence continues through the athletes, children, and families he helped, as well as through the people they have influenced in turn.
Talent and potential are a beginning. It is up to us to provide opportunities.
The
Morris X. Johnson Scholar-Athlete Endowed Scholarship at San Francisco State University aims to create opportunities for future scholar-athletes to excel, lead, serve others, and strengthen their communities.
The next ripple may begin at San Francisco State University, but its impact can extend far beyond it.
