MXC | Vargas Paces Gators in Strong Showing at Bill Roe Classic

FERNDALE, Wash. - The San Francisco State men's cross country team traveled to Washington to race in the Bill Roe Classic. The Gators placed fifth with 153 points and beat out GNAC schools Simon Fraser, Alaska Faribanks, Central Washington and Saint Martin's.

Western Washington, the winner and only DII school to place above SF State, was listed as the second ranked school in the West Region in the latest USTFCCCA Regional rankings. They were ranked ninth nationally.

For a second straight meet, Julian Vargas led the Gators with a top-five finish and placed fifth. Only two Division II athletes finished ahead of Vargas. His time of 24:27.8 was three seconds behind the fourth place runner from Western Washington.

Caleb Bouwens repeated as the second Gator to place and finished in 36th with a time of 26:10.1. Trevor Lam also placed in the top 50 with a time of 26:30.3.

The Gators will host their annual home invite on October 9 at Golden Gate Park. After the conclusion of the meet, the Gators will honor the seniors of the program.
