SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State wrestling program announces the hiring of Chris Cannon as their new Assistant Coach. The two-time NCAA DI All-American and three-time NCAA DI qualifier recently wrapped up his impressive career at University of Minnesota.

"I'm incredibly excited to have Chris join our staff – he's as elite as it comes between his multiple All-American honors at Northwestern University and his representation of Team USA in Freestyle," Lauded Head Coach Jason Welsch. "He's going to make a difference right away for our program. Not to mention a he's a fellow NU alumni! We share a value for tough, Big10 Wrestling. I can't wait to get to work."

Cannon was an All-American while at Northwestern in 2021 and 2022, placing seventh at Nationals at 133lbs both years. He attended Northwestern from 2019-23 and 2024-25, spending a year at University of Michigan in-between. Cannon wrestled at University of Minnesota for his final year of eligibility.

Internationally, Cannon was a 2021 U23 61kg World Team Member and placed fifth at U23 World Championships.

Wrestling kicks off it's season at the Menlo Invitational on November 7.
