Biography

2011-12:  Garnered the Gators’ Most Valuable Wrestler award after capturing the individual title in the 165-pound weight class at the NCAA Division II Super Regional 4/Rocky Mountain Athletic Championships … Posted a grueling 4-3 upset in the second tiebreaker against top-seeded Joey Wilson of Nebraska-Kearney for the right to advance to finals, where he outlasted Colorado Mesa’s Chester Granard by a 3-2 count … Also received first-team All-RMAC honors for his efforts and clinched his second straight berth in the NCAA Division II Championships … Cracked the individual rankings in his weight class for most of the season, climbing to as high as No. 3 in the final NWCA DII poll of the regular season on Feb. 28 … Also claimed the individual crown at the Mike Clock Senior Open and recorded a second-place finish at the Menlo Invitational …  Registered a 9-5 decision over Adam Fierro of Division I CSU Bakersfield, helping the Gators engineer a 20-16 upset of the Roadrunners at home … Led the squad with 72 takedowns and ranked third with 33 escapes … Was also selected team captain and named SF State’s Male Athlete of the Year at the annual student-athlete banquet.

2010-11: Earned his first-ever berth in the national championships after a third-place finish in the 165-pound weight class at the Super Regional 4 meet … Came away with tournament titles at the Mike Clock Senior Open and Menlo Invitational … Scored a key 4-3 decision over Garrett Schaner of Stanford to help fuel the Gators’ 18-16 upset of the Cardinal … Finished second on the team with 25 victories, including six by major decision … Topped the squad with 83 takedowns and tied for third with 40 escapes.

2009-10: Notched 11 wins last season at 157 pounds as a redshirt freshman … Ranked third on the team with 44 takedowns and finished fifth with 41 escapes … Recorded an 11-10 decision over Nicholas Jordan of Division I Cal State Fullerton for his first-ever dual meet victory (Dec. 11) … Came away with a fourth-place in his weight class at the Gators’ own California Collegiate Open after posting a 4-2 record (Jan. 30) … Pinned Chris McWhorter of Colorado State-Pueblo in the first round of the NCAA Division II Super Regional 4/RMAC Championships (Feb. 27).

2008-09: Utilized redshirt season.

PRIOR TO SF STATE: Earned four varsity letters at Palma High School in Salinas, Calif., where he graduated in 2008 ... Was a three-time Tri-County Athletic League champion and received his team’s Most Valuable Wrestler award on three occasions ... Twice qualified for the CIF Championships, finishing eighth at 160 pounds as a senior ... Received the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award for his weight class ... Took fourth at the CIF Central Coast Section meet that season as well ... Captured the CCS title during his junior campaign ... Also ran track and played football for the Chieftains.
