Luke O'Brien joins the coaching staff ahead of the 2023 season after wrapping up his collegiate career at SF State.
O'Brien came to the Gators as a graduate transfer for his final season of eligibility. He played in 40 games with 35 starts primarily at second base. One of the top defensive players for the Gators in 2022, O'Brien turned 20 double-plays. He led the team with 17 walks and was second in RBIs with 23.
Prior to SF State, O'Brien spent two seasons at former CCAA rival UC San Diego and played on the Inagural Division I team in 2021. O'Brien was named to the CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll in 2020 and 2022.
O'Brien started his collegiate career at Ohlone Colelge in 2018. He was named a 2019 Rawlings JuCo West Region Cold Glove Second Baseman,  Pacific Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Pacific Coast Middle Infielder Golden Glove Winner.
