Shannon Maas joins the San Francisco State coaching staff ahead of the 2019-20 season.
Prior to joining the Gators, Maas was the Head Women's Track & Field Coach at City College.
Maas served three years at Southern Oregon as the springs, hurdles, multis and relays coach from 2015-17. He coached over 17 school records, 95 Cascade Conference Qualifiers, 24 Cascade Conference Champions, 6 Cascade Conference records, 3 Cascade Conference Athletes of the Year, and 2 Men’s Cascade Conference Championship teams. At the national level in the NAIA, Maas accrued 16 National Championship qualifiers, 10 NAIA All Americans, and the first ever NAIA sprint champion in school history, Amelia Maguin (400 hurdles).
Prior to Southern Oregon, Maas was the Head Track and Field coach at College of the Siskiyous in Northern California, from 2008 - 2014. The Siskiyous Track and Field teams under Maas were some of the best in school history, as he generated 18 school records, 27 CCCAA State qualifiers, 4 State Champions, 5 State Runner-Ups, and 19 JUCO All-Americans. In 2012, COS finished 6th in the State, it’s highest placing in school history. He also helped revive cross country at Siskiyous, which had been dormant for over 20 years.
Maas is level 2 USATF Certified in the sprints, hurdles, jumps, and relays. He attended the Elite Emerging Coach’s Clinic at Chula Vista for the multi events, as well being awarded a special USATF grant to shadow a professional coach for one week at the 2016 USA Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Maas is also a Certified Personal Trainer (NCSF), a Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM), Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM), and Speed/Explosion Certified through NASE.
