Lawrence Saenz joined the San Francisco State Wrestling coaching staff ahead of the 2024-25 season.

As a graduate student for the Gators, Saenz was ranked as high as No. 7 by The Open Mat and No. 10 by NWCA at 141 lb. He finished in fifth place at NCAA Division II Super Regionals and posted a 17-5 overall record with an 8-1 dual record. He garnered RMAC Honorable Mention and was named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.

Prior to coming to San Francisco, Saenz earned his degree in communications studies from Cal Poly. He competed three seasons for the Mustangs, where he posted a 29-19 record. He also spent two seasons at Fresno State. He redshirted his first season, then in 2019-20, went 17-14 overall and earned a berth at the NCAA Championships at 133 pounds.

In a stellar career at Vacaville High School, Saenz finished second as a senior in the 2018 California State Championships at 138 pounds after placing fourth at 138 pounds as a junior in 2017. He was a four-time CIF state qualifier, as well as a two-time Freak Show Champion, California USA Freestyle State Champion, and USAW Folkstyle All-American.
