Schussel joined the Athletic Training Staff in Fall 2006 and was elevated to Head Athletic Trainer in June 2009. In July 2019, he was named Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine. He oversees all sports medicine-related aspects and the strength and conditioning program for SF State's intercollegiate athletics program. Prior to SF State, Bryce spent two years in San Jose State's Graduate Athletic Training Program where he earned his Master's Degree in 2006. Along with the in-class work San Jose State required, the program consisted of an internship which he completed at Stanford University. From June 2004 through May 2006 Bryce worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Stanford's football and men's tennis teams. He finished the program and earned his Masters of Arts Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training in the spring of 2006.

In the summer of 2006, Schussel was a volunteer athletic trainer for the Portland Trail Blazers summer camp. In 2005, Schussel got a rare opportunity to be an intern athletic trainer with the San Francisco Giants. These two opportunities gave him the ability to work with world-renowned athletes in a professional Sports Medicine setting.

Schussel began his education at Azusa Pacific, where he worked with a variety of teams as a student athletic trainer. He graduated from Azusa Pacific with his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Athletic Training in the spring of 2004. Shortly after graduation, he became a Certified Athletic Trainer through the NATA Board of Certification.

Schussel has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 2003. In February of 2007, Bryce passed the National Strength and Conditioning Certification and became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

A native of Lake Tahoe, Schussel married his college sweetheart, Shari, in July 2008. They currently reside in San Carlos with their daughter Jade and son Zachary.
