Senior outside hitter Beth Perkins was a key force in SF State’s 1-1 weekend, knocking down 39 kills (4.33 per set) to go along with 31 digs (3.44 per set), two service aces and two block assists. Against second-ranked UC San Diego on Friday, Perkins pounded a match-high 21 kills (5.25 per set) while scooping up a team-best 17 digs (4.25 per set), as the Gators snapped the Tritons’ 16-match winning streak. With her totals, Perkins reached the 20-kill plateau for the seventh time this season to help SF State defeat UCSD for the first time in 15 all-time meetings between the two schools. The following evening against Cal State East Bay, she once again posted a match-high 18 kills (3.60 per set) while contributing 14 digs (2.8 per set) and a service ace en route to her 14th double-double of the year. In addition, Perkins became SF State’s single-season record holder with 412 kills, surpassing Christine Given’s total of 396 set in 1991, leading the Gators to a 19-9 record so far this year—their best mark since 1996.
