Gator Wrestlers Post 3-0 Mark at Embry-Riddle Duals

Steve Franklin notched a 3-0 record on Saturday, including two pins at the Embry-Riddle Duals.
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The San Francisco State wrestling team made its trip to the desert a memorable one, as it posted a 3-0 record on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Mile High Duals in Prescott, Ariz. The Gators notched convincing victories against a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foes, defeating Grand Canyon University, 34-6, before knocking off New Mexico Highlands, 39-8. SF State then capped off the day with a 23-12 triumph over Simon Fraser. With their performance, the Gators improve to 5-4 overall in dual-meet competition and 2-0 in the RMAC.
 
SF State grabbed the early lead in each of its three duals, winning a combined 22 of 30 bouts over the course of the day.
 
Juniors Steve Franklin (Middletown, California, Middletown, Santa Rosa), Markham Bertron (San Jose, California, Oak Grove, West Valley Junior College) and Ben Lockett (San Francisco, California, George Washington) were three-time victors, along with sophomores Pierre Bondoc (Modesto, California, Beyer) and Joshua Nolan (Quincy, California, Quincy) Franklin's triumphs included two pins as he raised his record to a team-best 16-8 overall. Bondoc, Nolan, Lockett each came away with a major decision, while senior Marques Gales (Fairfield, California, Armijo, Santa Rosa), junior Vincent Bordi (Manteca, California, Manteca) and freshman Naveed Bagheri (Los Gatos, California, Los Gatos, West Valley Junior College) earned technical falls.
 
The Gators return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 24, when they play host to UC Davis in a non-conference clash at the Main Gymnasium. SF State's home opener is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
