ARCATA, Calif.--- Despite Dominique Hunter (San Francisco, California, Gateway)seventh double-double of the season, the SF State Gators fell 56-48 to Humboldt State this evening in a CCAA game at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata. Hunter finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and had three blocked shots. Nicole Hicks (Santa Clarita, California, Saugus High School)added 10 points for the Gators. Bree Halsey poaced the Lumberjacks with 16 points.
"We have to keep pushing along as we are inexperienced in key spots," said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. "We have not learned how to win."
The first half was evenly played until Taylor Kilgor's three gave the Lumberjacks (7-7, 4-6 CCAA) a 16-11 lead. They increased their lead to 9 on Jenna Hamilton's old-fashioned three-point play with 3:44 to go in the half. Humboldt State took a 25-21 lead into the locker room.
The Gators took their first lead of the second half as they opened the half on a 6-0 run capped by Nicole Hicks' lay-up go give SF State a 27-25 in the first three minutes. SF State increased its lead to 43-35 with 6:14 on the clock on Michaela Booker (Union City,California, James Logan High School) jumper.
Humboldt State though would not go away as the Lumberjacks outscored the Gators 8-0 as Lisa Petty hit a three to tie the game at 43-43 with 53 seconds left in regulation. SF State turned the ball over on its next possession, but the Lumberjacks missed a three as the regulation ended.
The hosts outscored the Gators (1-13, 1-9 CCAA) 9-3 in the first 2:30 of the overtime to take a 52-46 lead and never looked back. Humboldt State held on for the 56-48 lead.
Bree Halsey finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead the way for Humboldt State while Taylor Kilgore chipped in 12.
SF State will continue its four-game road trip this Friday, January 22 at Chico State. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
