No. 4 CUI Holds Off Gators

Griffin Reilly Scored 12 points and Had A Game High 7 Rebounds in the Gators' Game Against No. 4 CUI This Evening

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.---  The 4th ranked team in the nation in NAIA, Concordia (Calif) Eagles, held off the SF State Gators 90-75 in the first game of the 2011 Ron Logsdon Classic in Rohnert Park this evening.  The Eagles used a 14-5 run early in the second half to key their non-conference over SF State.
 
“I am happy with our effort this evening,” said SF State Head Coach Paul Trevor.  “We need to get better defensively, but saying that we are making strides getting to where we need to be.”
 
SF State (1-2) jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in the first two minutes of the game, but the Eagles went on a 8-3 run capped by a three by Tim Harris to take a 12-10 lead in the next three minutes, a lead they would not relinquish.
 
Concordia (3-0) increased its lead to 27-17 on a three by Cameron Gliddon at the 10:30 mark of the first half. 
 
The Gators came right back and cut that lead to 27-23 with 8:14 to go in the half as they went on a 6-0 run capped by a Griffin Reilly lay-up.
 
The Eagles went on a run of their own, this time a 14-8 run, to take a 44-31 with just two minutes left in the first stanza.  SF State cut the lead to single digits on a Chad Delaney lay-up with 39 seconds left, but Austin Simon's jumper gave the Eagles a 46-37 lead going into the locker room.
 
Concordia continued its run as the Eagles increased their lead to 60-42 (their largest of the game) in the first four minutes of the second half. 
 
The pesky Gators would not go away as they cut that lead to 64-54 on a David Love old-fashioned three-point play with a little under 12 minutes to go in regulation.  During that span, the Gators outscored their opponents 12-4 including 7 points by Nefi Perdomo.
 
The Eagles came right back an increased their lead to 77-61 as they outscored SF State 13-7.
 
In the final six minutes, SF State (1-2) could not get any closer than 12 points as Concordia held on for a 90-75 victory.
 
Austin Simon led the way for the Eagles with a game high 25 points as he was one of six players in double figures for Concordia.  The Eagles shot 53% from the field including 50% from three-point land while forced 24 turnovers by their opponents.
 
Perdomo paced the Gators with 20 points (all in the second half) as he went 5 of 10 from the field including 2 of 5 from three-point land.  The junior guard also went 8-of-10 from the charity stripe while dishing out four assists and recording two steals in just 22 minutes of action.
 
James Albright added 17 points for the Gators and Griffin Reilly finished with 12 points and a game high 7 rebounds. 
 
The Gators will return to the court tomorrow evening at 5:30pm as they will take on the Clan of Simon Fraser in their second game at the Ron Logsdon Classic on the campus of Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif.
