Chico State Holds Off Gators' Late Rally in 72-66 Win

Griffin Reilly Had 13 Points and 4 Assists This Evening in the Gators' 72-66 Loss to Chico State
Box Score SAN FRANCISCO---  The visiting Chico State Wildcats improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the CCAA as they held off a late SF State Gator rally to defeat the Gators 72-66 at the Swamp on SF State's campus.  Nefi Perdomo led the way for the Gators with a season high 25 points while Griffin Reilly chipped in 13 points.  Jay Flores was one of three Wildcats in double digits as he had 18 points.

 “We played a good 35 minutes, but we still need to find that good 40 minute performance,” said SF State Head Coach Paul Trevor.  “We played hard this evening, but we need to get better.” “Griffin Reilly and Nefi Perdomo gave us many good minutes this evening.”
 
The first half saw five lead changes and six ties with the Gators holding the largest advantage, 18-13, with 7:48 left in the half. 
 
The game was tied at 24-24 when Sean Park's jumper at the 3:41 mark of the first half.  The Wildcats outscored SF State 10-8 in the final minutes of the half to take a 34-32 lead into the locker room on Sean Park's three.
 
Chico State (5-0, 1-0 CCAA) continued its run into the second half as the Wildcats went on a 8-2 run to take a 42-34 lead on a Flores' three in the first five minutes of the second stanza.
 
They increased their lead to 50-37 as James Stanisland's three capped a 8-3 run by the Wildcats with 11:32 left on the clock.
 
They held on to their double digit lead up including a 57-45 lead with 7:30 to go on a Sims' tip-in. 
 
Nefi Perdomo's jumper capped a 21-7 run by the Gators as they cut the Chico State lead to 66-64 with 1:36 left in regulation. 
 
The Gators' Chad Delaney recorded one of his three steals on the night on Chico State's next possession, but the Gators could not convert. 
 
Sims rebounded a missed Chico State' three to give the visitors a 68-64 lead with just 22 seconds left in the game. 
 
Chico State went four-for-four from the charity stripe in the final seconds to hang on to the 72-66 victory.
 
SF State (2-6, 0-2 CCAA) will continue its brief two-game home stand this Saturday, December 3 at 7:30pm, when the Gators host Cal State Stanislaus at the Swamp.  Cal State Stanislaus lost 66-65 at Cal Poly Pomona this evening.
