Box Score SAN FRANCISCO-- SF State built a 17-point halftime lead while holding the visiting CSU Monterey Bay Otters to just 24% shooting from the field to key the Gators' 92-82 victory at the Swamp this evening.
Nefi Perdomo paced the Gators with a game high 27 points while
Griffin Reilly and
James Albright each recorded double-doubles as the hosts picked up their first CCAA win.
“Our guys gave great effort this evening and hopefully we can learn from the victory,” said SF State Head Coach
Paul Trevor. “Nefi (Perdomo), Griffin (Reilly) and James (Albright) gave us solid efforts tonight.”
Reilly recorded his third double-double of the season by scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while Albright had his second double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to assist the Gators in their victory. Reilly also had six assists and two blocked shots while the Gators out-rebounded Cal State Monterey Bay (2-8, 1-5 CCAA) 48-28.
Derrick Anderson had 19 points to lead the Otters and Brandon Ward added 16 points. James Thomas also chipped in 15 points and James Albert had 11 points in the loss for Cal State Monterey Bay.
The only lead that the Otters held in the game when Derrik Anderson scored on a tip-in to open up the game.
SF State (3-9, 1-5 CCAA) then outscored its visitors 12-2 in the next five minutes to take a 12-4 lead. Anderson's two made free throws tied the game at 12-12, but the Gators went on a 16-5 run capped by a Perdomo lay-up to take a 28-17 lead with 8:12 left in the first half.
Griffin Reilly's three off an assist from Albright gave the Gators their largest lead 45-28 as the buzzer sounded going into halftime.
The Otters battled in the second half as they cut the Gators lead to 78-70 with 5:13 left in regulation.
SF State went 10-for-14 from the charity stripe in the final five minutes of the game including Perdomo going 7-for-10 as the hosts held on for the 92-82 victory.
The Gators had 17 assists while forcing 20 turnovers and had 13 steals in the win. SF State also went 28-for-43 from the charity stripe while the Otters were 24-for-40 in a game that saw 54 fouls called.
SF State will return home this Saturday evening, January 7 at 7:30pm, when the Gators host Cal State East Bay in another CCAA match-up. The Pioneers defeated No. 6 Cal Poly Pomona 57-54 in Pomona this evening.
