Box Score SAN FRANCISCO---   The SF State women's basketball team found its rhythm offensively Saturday night as they went on to defeat Cal State Monterey Bay 49-38 at the Swamp.  The Gators second half surge, led by Sophomore Farrah Shokoor's 15-point performance, was more than enough to take down the red-hot Otters.  With the win, SF State improves to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA while CSUMB (3-1, 1-1 CCAA) suffers its first loss of the season.

"Tonight we played inspired basketball against a really good opponent," said SF State Head Coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  "Defensively, we were consistent as we are getting back to our identity."

While both teams played close to each other in the opening half, it would be SF State that took control of this game in the final period.  Although early on, the Otters were determined to jump out to an early lead.  With 13:24 left in the first period, the Otters went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 13-8.  However that wouldn't last long as SF State battled back and was able to tie it up at 19 at the half.

The Otters finished the first half with 15 turnovers compared to the Gators 8.  Although CSUMB was able to stay in the game because of their impressive rebounding early on.  The Otters collectively out-rebounded the Gators 23-15 in the first period.

After an early lay-up by CSUMB's Holly Hollcomb to start the second half, SF State went on an impressive 18-0 run to go out ahead 37-21.  The run was fueled by junior guard Angela Van Sickel's three 3-pointers.  The Gators would not look back after that as they went on to cruise to a 49-38 victory.

Brittani Jefferson led the way for the Otters, scoring 8 points and collecting 6 rebounds.  Throughout the game, the Gators were able to shut down the Otters perimeter offense, holding them to 2-20 (10%) from beyond the arc.

Van Sickel went on to finish with 13 points on the night.  As a team, SF State shot 36% (14-39) from the field.  Senior guard Nicole Hicks led the team with 6 rebounds.

The Gators will start the first of four games on the road on December 11 before returning to the Swamp on January 11 to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills.
