Gators Hold On For 81-78 Road CCAA Victory

Nefi Perdomo Had 18 Points In the Gators' 81-78 Road Win at CSUMB This Evening
Box Score  SEASIDE, Calif.---  The SF State Gators finished their weekend 2-0 after defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 81-78 this evening at the Kelp Bed in Seaside, Calif.  The Gators were led by Griffin Reilly, Nefi Perdomo and Robbie Herndon who combined for 51 points for the visitors. 

“I am extremely happy for our guys they played extremely hard this weekend and were rewarded with two victories,” said SF State Head Coach Paul Trevor.  “Griffin (Reilly) and Nefi (Perdomo) each respectively played good halves for us and Max (Fodor) keeps on getting better.”

Reilly finished with 19 points off the bench for the Gators while Perdomo chipped in 18 points.  Robbie Herndon added 14 points for SF State, also off the bench.  SF State (7-17, 5-13 CCAA) also forced 18 turnovers by the Otters.

Reilly's three gave the Gators an early 10-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game.  Cal State Monterey Bay's Geoff
McIntosh's three capped an 11-3 run by the Otters as they took a 15-13 lead at the 11:27 mark. 

SF State (7-17, 5-13 CCAA) outscored the hosts 27-13 in the next nine minutes to take a 40-28 lead.  The Otters cut the Gator lead to 40-36 when Brandon Ward hit a three with 23 seconds left in the half.  Reilly's three gave SF State a 43-36 lead into the locker room.

The Gators had a 54-48 lead on a Herndon jumper at the 13:20 mark of the second half, but the Otters went on a 16-5 run to take a 64-59 lead on Derrick Anderson's two made free throws.

SF State retook the lead when Daniel Trammel hit a lay-up to cap a 6-0 run by the Gators to give the visitors a 65-64 lead.

McIntosh hit a three to tie the game at 69-69 with 3:49 to go in regulation for Cal State Monterey Bay (2-19, 1-16 CCAA). 

Back to back jumper' by Trammel and Herndon gave the Gators a 73-69 lead with 2:38 left on the clock. 

The Otters would not go away as McIntosh was fouled to cut the Gator lead to 73-71 on their next possession, but Perdomo hit a three off an assist from Chad Delaney to give the visitors a 76-71 lead with less than two minutes to go in the game. 

Ward was fouled by the Gators and made both free throws to cut the deficit to 76-73.  Herndon and Delaney each went two-for-two to increase the Gator lead to 80-73

Ward then hit a three on the Otters' next possession to cut the lead to 80-76 with eight ticks left on the clock.  Reilly was fouled on the Gators' next possession and he went 1-for-2 from the line to give SF State an 81-76 lead. 

Derrick Anderson was fouled on Cal State Monterey Bay's next possession and he connected on two of his three free throw attempts to cut the lead back to just three, 81-78 with only four seconds left.  The Otters got the ball back on the missed free throw and had a chance to tie the game, but their attempt was short as the buzzer sounded. 
Brandon Ward led the Otters with 18 points and Derrick Anderson and Geoff McIntosh each added 13 points for the hosts.

The Gators will return home this Thursday, February 16 at 7:30pm, when they begin a season ending four-game home stand.  SF State will host Humboldt State at the Swamp on SF State's campus.
