Box Score SAN FRANCISCO –The SF State Gators men's basketball team improved to 13-7 overall and 11-5 in the CCAA with a 64-50 win over the visiting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors. The Gators now have won their last four games in a row and five of their last six games.
Decensae White was one of four Gators to score in double figures with a game high 14 points. Once again, the Gator defense came up big as they held the Warriors to 37% shooting from the field.
“You have to find ways to win in this conference,” said SF State head coach
Paul Trevor. “Saturday's our tough nights to play, but we had a good team effort and we were solid defensively. We struggled to hit a shot but we still found a way to win.”
Besides White's 14 points, the Gators received double digit efforts from
Brandon Tatum (11 points),
Winston Demmin and William Overton, Jr. each with 10 points.
SF State out-rebounded its guests 38-31 with Demmin and Overton leading the way each with 8 rebounds.
Cal State Stanislaus (7-13, 4-12 CCAA) was lead by Ray Mitchell's 12 points while Nick Hodge had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Bell scored 10 points off the bench for the Warriors going a perfect four-for-four from the field including making both of his three attempts.
SF State took a 16-10 lead on
Max Fodor's lay-up at the 12:45 mark of the first half. The Gators increased their lead to 33-20 on a three by Overton at the 4:28 mark of the first stanza. Demmin's tip-in off a miss by
Calvin Otiono gave the hosts a 37-26 lead heading in halftime.
The Gators held their double digit lead until the 14:07 mark of the second stanza as Taylor Bell's three cut the deficit to 43-36.
SF State came right back and held the Warriors scoreless in the next three minutes as the Gators outscored their guest 6-0 to take a 49-36 lead.
Cal State Stanislaus would not go away as the Warriors cut the Gator lead to 49-43 on a Sam Marcus lay-up with 7:36. That is the closest the Warriors would get as the Gators outscored their visitors 10-6 to give the hosts a 59-46 on a Tatum dunk with just 2:21 left on the clock.
The Gators finished the game outscoring Cal State Stanislaus 5-4 to take the 64-50 victory.
SF State will now be back on the road for four of its last six games of the season beginning with this Friday's game at Cal State L.A. Game time is set for 7:30pm at the Eagles Nest on Friday, Feb. 15.
