ARCATA, Calif.---The visiting SF State Gators saw their rally from a double-digit deficit fall shot in their 93-85 CCAA road loss at Humboldt State this evening. The Gators lost despite having four players score in double figures led by Lauren Varney and Angela Van Sickel each with 20 points.

"On the road as a team, it is imperative that you win lay-ups, put backs and free throws and this evening we missed out share of the aforementioned," said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace. "It was a very difficult road trip for us, however, we have to defend better in the half-court---on the road----defense wins games not offense."

Katie Batlin's old-fashioned three-point play capped an opening 10-2 run by the Gators in the first three minutes of the game.

Humboldt State (7-5, 4-4 CCAA) cut the deficit to 12-10 on a Megan Shields' lay-up, but the Gators increased their lead to 17-10 on a Brianna Harden jumper at the 12:49 mark of the first half.

The Lumberjacks outscored their guests 17-6 in the next four minutes to take a 27-23 lead.

SF State came right back and went on a 14-4 run capped by a Brittaney Allison lay-up to take a 37-31 with just 4:30 left in the first stanza.

Kersey Wilcox's three-point play tied the game at 40-40 at the 2:14 mark and the Lumberjacks finished the half outscoring SF State 5-1 to take a 45-41 lead into the locker room.

The hosts continued their run in the second half as they increased their lead to 64-50 in the first six minutes of the new stanza.

Angela Van Sickel's lay-up cut the Gator deficit to 66-60 at the 10:44 mark.

Humboldt State increased its lead back to double digits (79-67) on a three by Jae Shin.

The Gators did not go away as Jennifer Le's lay-up cut the Lumberjack lead to 83-79 with just 3:37 left in the game.

Humboldt State scored on its next two possessions to take an 87-79 lead, but the Gators' Varney scored on back-to-back lay-ups to cut the lead to 87-83 with just 39 ticks on the game clock.

Wilcox was fouled on the Lumberjacks' next possession and connected on both of her attempts from the charity stripe to give the hosts an 89-83 lead.

Van Sickel was fouled on the Gators' next possession, but went 0-for-3 from the line and the Lumberjacks connected on all four of their attempts from the line in the final seconds to seal the 93-85 win.

Danielle Gaumer led the way for the Lumberjacks with 19 points and was one of four players to score in double figures for Humboldt State. The hosts shot 49% from the field including 44% from three-point land. They went 25-for-27 from the charity stripe while the Gators were 10-for-23.

SF State (8-6, 4-4 CCAA) shot 49% from the field and were 11-for-17 from beyond the arc including Van Sickel going 4-for-5 while Sutton was 3-for-3.

Besides Van Sickel's and Varney's 20 points, Brianna Harden and Michelle Sutton had 14 points and 13 points respectively off the bench. Harden also had 11 rebounds to lead the way for the visitors.

With the loss, the Gators fall into a three-way for 7th place with Chico State and Humboldt State.

SF State will return home for the first time of the New Year, this Friday, January 17 when the Gators host Cal State San Bernardino at The Swamp with a scheduled tip-off of 5:30pm.
