Box Score CARSON, Calif.---The SF State Gators had a season high 25 assists on 32 field goals to key their 79-68 road conference win over the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros this evening at the Torodome in Carson.
Nefi Perdomo had 24 points while
Brandon Tatum had a career high 18 points as he was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field including connecting on all four of his three-pointers. In his first start as a Gator, junior transfer
Bren Haley had a season high 11 assists.
"It was a total team effort for us this evening as we had 25 assists on our 32 field goals," said SF State head coach
Paul Trevor. "We shared the ball well this evening with Bren (Haley) leading the way as he came up big for us in his first start." "This was a big win for us against a very good Cal State Dominguez Hills team."
The Gators shot 54% from the field including 46% from three-point land with Tatum leading the way going a perfect 7-for-7 including connecting on all four of his attempts from beyond the arc. Perdomo was 9-for-15 from the field including connecting on his six of his seven attempts from three-point land.
In his first start as a Gator, Haley dished out a season high 11 assists while not turning the ball over in 28 minutes of action. The junior transfer also had one steals and grabbed two rebounds.
Will Overton, Jr. had a career high 6 assists with just two turnovers while Perdomo added three assists and no turnovers.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-8, 2-4 CCAA) was led by Moriba DeFreitas' 14 points off the bench while Pierson Williams and Everett Turner each had 12 points for the Toros.
SF State (6-3, 4-2 CCAA) forced 23 turnovers by its hosts while turning those turnovers into 29 points.
The Gators led from tip-off as
Max Fodor scored the game's first basket off an assist from Overton. Fodor finished the night with a season high 11 points.
SF State took a 6-2 lead in the first three minutes as Perdomo made a lay-up off of one of Haley's 11 assists.
The Toros outscored their guests 8-4 in the next three minutes to tie the game at 10-10 on a three by Williams.
Bennie Rhodes' three capped a 15-2 run by the Gators as they took a 25-12 lead at the 10:29 mark of the first half.
Darnell Martin's lay-up cut the Gator lead to 28-19, but the guests outscored the Toros 10-9 in the final six minutes of the half to take a 38-28 lead.

SF State increased its lead to 75-53 on a Perdomo trey off another assist from Haley as the Gators cruised to the 79-68 road conference win.
The Gators are now in a tie for fourth place in the CCAA with #21 Chico State, two games behind co-leaders Cal State L.A. and #19 Cal State San Bernardino. Cal Poly Pomona is in third place with its 5-1 CCAA record.
SF State will continue its five-game road trip this Thursday, January 9 in Pomona, Calif., for a 7:30pm scheduled conference game with Cal Poly Pomona. The Gators will wrap up their road trip, one week from tonight in Arcata, Calif., as they take on Humboldt State in another 7:30pm scheduled tip-off.
