@SFState_WSOC Blanks Toros 1-0

CARSON –For the fourth time this season, the SF State Gators recorded a shutout this time a 1-0 victory over the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros at the StubHub Center in Carson late this afternoon.  With the win, the Gators improve to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the CCAA.

"It was a great goal…. (Stephanie) Vanni served from just inside the half and then (Kelsey) Wetzstein flicked on to Autumn Fox who slid the ball between the goalkeeper's legs," said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde.  "The whole team hung on for the 1-0 road conference win."

The Gators were outshot by their opponents 17-12 including 10-7 in the first half.  The Toros (1-10-1, 1-4 CCAA) also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

SF State came out strong early as Autumn Fox looked like she was going to give the Gators a 1-0 lead, but Jennifer Ackerly stopped her shot on goal attempt just 100 seconds into the match.

Cal State Dominguez Hills came right down the pitch after that, but Allison Land recorded one of eight saves on the day by stopping Moa Erickson's shot in the second minute.

The Toros had one more chance before the half to take the lead, but once again Land stopped the Toros' attempt as they match went scoreless into the half.

Just like the first half, the Gators came out strong and went down the pitch in the first minute of the second half.  Fox scored what proved to be the game-winner off a ball from Stephanie Vanni and Kelsey Wetzstein.  This was her fourth goal of the season and Wetzstein's seventh assist and Vanni's first.

Land came up big again in the 55th minute as she recorded a save on Ida Eriksson's attempt.

Sarah Guensler had an attempt to give the Gators a 2-0 lead, but Ackerly recorded a save in the 60th minute.

The Toros had one more chance in the final seconds but Katelyn Fregosi's shot sailed wide as the Gators hung on for the 1-0 win.

SF State will end its four-match road trip this Sunday, October 12 at 2pm in Los Angeles for a match with the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles.  Cal State L.A. is currently hosting Cal State Monterey Bay.
