@SFState_WVB Ends Saturday Drought, Defeats Toros In Straight Sets

San Francisco – The SF State women's volleyball team ended its long winless drought in Saturday matches this afternoon.  The Gators defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills in straight sets (25-18, 25-10, 25-19) and went 2-0 on the weekend to improve to 9-9/7-6 CCAA and ended a seven game skid on the sixth day of the week.

The Gators carried over their momentum from the dominating win over Cal State L.A. the night before by taking early control of the match from the first set.  After the Toros (2-15/1-12 CCAA) tied the set at 3-3 the Gators went on a 13-3 run and going up by a score of 16-6, eventually winning the set 25-18.  The match only featured 11 ties and four lead changes most of that coming in the first and third set.

The Gators hit .248 as a team and received a balance attack.  Setter Jacquie Brice recorded 32 assists with 13 digs for her ninth double-double of the year and spread the wealth as eight players recorded a kill on the afternoon.

Leading the team in kills was Jaclyn Clark who recorded a match-high 11 kills on 29 swings, Bria Morgan finished with nine kills on 21 swings and Malia Muin boasted a season-high with seven kills on 15 swings.  Samantha Krakower, Kaileen Mejia and Jazmine Williams all finished with four kills each.

Defensively the Gators were all over the floor.  The Toros hit -.018 on the afternoon recording just 22 kills while hitting into 24 errors on 109 attempts.  Brice recorded a match-high with her 13 digs, meanwhile Jessica Nicerio and Krista Forte played exceptional defense picking up 12 and 10 digs respectively.

In the second set the Gators defense was particularly stifling, the Toros managed just five kills with 10 errors in the set and hit -.143.  Meanwhile SF State had their best set, posting a .355 attack percentage.  The fourth set was more of the same.  Cal State Dominguez Hills tied the set up at 8-8 following a Gator attack error. From there it was all Gators, as SF State went on an 11-3 run to take a 19-11 advantage.  Morgan put the match away smashing a ball down the line for the kill and securing the first perfect weekend of the season for the Gators.

SF State returns to action on Thursday when they travel north to take on Humboldt State in Arcata, Calif.  First serve for that match is slated for 7 p.m.
