SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State's women's soccer team and the visiting Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans played to a scoreless tie in a non-conference match at Cox Stadium this afternoon. Prior to the match, the Gators held a ceremony recognizing head coach
Jack Hyde as he will be retiring at the end of the season after 30+ years of coaching at SF State.
SF State (7-6-2) outshot its opponents 21-9 including 16-7 in the final 65 minutes. The Gators also held a 5-4 advantage in shot on goal attempts and a 7-1 corner kick advantage.
Allison Land had four saves in goal for her sixth shutout of the season. Kayla Clarke had 5 saves in goal for the Vulcans (5-3-5).
Land made two saves in the first 20 minutes of the match as she stopped Ronnie Richter and Danalynne Llacuna's attempt from giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Brittany Oldham's shot sailed wide left in the 32
nd minute and then
Elizet Ceja had her shot to give the Gators the lead be blocked in the 40
th minute as the match went into the second half scoreless.
In the first four minutes of the second half,
Kelsey Wetzstein had a chance to give the Gators the lead but Clarke recorded one of her saves for the Vulcans.
SF State had four more chances in the next ten minutes for the lead, but
Shannon Rauschnot (two chances),
Karla Uribe and Wetzstein's attempt all sailed wide or were stopped by Clarke.
The Vulcans (5-3-5) had a chance for the 1-0 lead when Land stopped Linn Larsson's shot in the 83
rd minute.
The Gators had another chance before the end of regulation, when
Sydney Stout's shot was stopped by Clarke in the 85
th minute to send the match into overtime.
SF State had all five shot attempts in the first overtime including one in the 95
th minute that was stopped by Clarke off the foot of Wetzstein.
In the second overtime, the Gators' Stout had a chance for the golden goal sail wide left as the match ended into a double overtime scoreless tie.
SF State will return to the pitch this Friday, October 24 at 4:30pm in Chico, Calif., for a CCAA match-up with Chico State.
