SAN BERNARDINO –Kiana Quarles scored the golden goal off a ball from Jasmine Williams to give the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes the 2-1 this afternoon in a CCAA match in the 107
th minute. With the win, the Coyotes improve to 14-3 overall and 7-3 in the CCAA.
"The team fought hard despite several injuries," said SF State head coach
Jack Hyde. "Our goal is to get healed for our final match this Thursday against Sonoma State."
The Coyotes outshot the Gators 20-7 including 9-3 in shot on goal attempts. Cal State San Bernardino also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
SF State's
Kelsey Wetzstein tried to give the visitors the early lead in the first minute, but Emily Whyte stopped her attempt.
Allison Taylor had a chance off a corner kick by Wetzstein to give the Gators the lead, but her attempt sailed wide in the 11
th minute.
Rachel Arce had a chance in the 27
th minute, when her shot sailed high over the goal.
Allison Land recorded one of her match high 8 saves in the 44
th when she stopped Kiana Quarles to send match into the half scoreless.
The match remained scoreless until the 64
th minute, when
Alex Palomino scored her first goal of the season off a ball from
Shannon Rauschnot to give the Gators the 1-0 lead.
It looked like SF State (7-8-2, 2-7-1 CCAA) was going to double its lead when
Autumn Fox's shot was stopped by Whyte.
Six minutes later, the Coyotes tied the match on a goal by Kiersten Miller off a ball from Williams. The Coyotes had two chances late in the match for the game-winner but Land stopped both of their attempts.
The hosts had two chances for the golden goal in the first overtime, but Land once again came up with thesave.
Then in the 107
th minute of the second overtime, Kiana Quarles connected on the golden goal off a ball from Williams.
SF State will return home for the final time this Thursday, October 30 at 12:30pm when the Gators host Sonoma State. Prior to the match, SF State will recognize its seniors in
