SEASIDE, Calif.— The SF State Gators fell 1-0 to Cal State Monterey Bay to begin their four-match road trip this afternoon in a CCAA match-up at the Otter Sports Complex in Seaside, Calif. Regan Porteous scored the game winner in the 38
th minute for the Otters (5-4, 2-1 CCAA).
"We are making technical errors for example our offsides penalties this afternoon," said SF State head coach
Jack Hyde. "We had our chances this afternoon, but just did not convert."
The Otters outshot the Gators 6-3 including 3-0 on shots on goal this afternoon and also held a 3-2 corner kick advantage.
SF State (5-4, 0-3 CCAA) had a chance to take a 1-0 lead in the 37
th minute but
Elizet Ceja's shot sailed wide left.
The Otters took the lead on Regan Porteuous' first goal of the season off a ball from Sierra Townsend.
The Gators had two chances to tie the match in the 50
th minute, but both of
Elizet Ceja's shots either hit the post or sailed wide right.
SF State had one more chance to even the score, but
Kelsey Wetzstein's corner kick could not connected with another Gator in the final minutes as the Otters hung on for a 1-0 victory.
The Gators will return to the pitch this Sunday, October 5 at 11:30am, when they face Humboldt State in a CCAA match in Arcata, Calif.
