@SFState_WSOC Gators Snap Streak with 3-0 Win at Humboldt State

ARCATA –The SF State women's soccer team snapped their three-match losing streak this afternoon with a 3-0 win over the Humboldt State Lumberjacks (6-4, 1-3 CCAA) this afternoon at College Creek Field in Arcata.  With the win, the Gators improve to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.

"We played very well on the road against a very tough Humboldt State team," said SF State head coach Jack Hyde.  "Accolades go out to our midfielders in Elizet Ceja, Kelsey Wetzstein and Brittany Oldham as they played a major role in our victory this afternoon."

The Gators controlled the match as they held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, 5-3 in shots on goal and 14-11 in shot attempts.

Humboldt State's Amber Woolcock had the match's first shot attempt, but the Gators' Allison Land recorded one of her five saves on the day in the third minute.  The Lumberjacks had another shot stopped by Land this time off the foot of Lizzie Mitchell in the eighth minute.

Five minutes later, the Gators took the lead as Kelsey Wetzstein connected on her first goal of the season from 20 yards out that went into the upper right of the goal.

The score remained 1-0 Gators heading into the 15-minute halftime.

SF State doubled its lead at the 56:14 mark as Wetzstein had her sixth assist of the season as she connected with Rachel Arce to give the Gators a 2-0 lead.  This was Arce's second goal of the season.

The Gators sealed the win, nine minutes later when Brittany Oldham scored her second goal of the season off a ball from Elizet Ceja.  This was Ceja's third assist of the season.

Land recorded her third shutout of the season in goal for the visitors.

SF State will continue its season long four-match road trip this Friday, October 10 in Carson, Calif., for a 4:30pm starting match with Cal State Dominguez Hills.
