Turnovers Prove Costly To @SFState_WBB In Road Loss

BELMONT – The SF State women's basketball team committed 25 turnovers that led to 35 points for host Notre Dame de Namur, as the Gators fell 77-46 on Saturday afternoon at Walter Gleason Gym.
 
The Gators (0-2) shot just 25.9 percent from the floor on the day going 14-for-54.  SF State was led by freshman Savannah Camp who scored a career-high 16 points, going 5-for-9 from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
 
The Gators starting five combined to shoot 6-for-32 on the game and was led by Jasmine Flanagan's eight first half points.  The real issue for the Gators was the turnover bug.  In the opening half, SF State committed 12 turnovers which contributed to 22 first half points.  With the help of that 22 points, the Argonauts took a 35-15 lead with 4:11 in the opening half.
 
SF State went into the locker room trailing by 20, 41-21.  Coming out of the break the Gators were led by Camp's 10 points. Michelle Sutton and CeCe Nguyen both scored five.  The Gators offense was aided by the strong performance from the free throw line.  SF State shot just 21.4 percent from the field, going 6-for-24, but connected on 12-of-14 attempts from the charity stripe.
 
On the glass the Gators did a much better job, but was once again outrebounded by their opponent.  Notre Dame de Namur (1-2) held the edge on the glass owning a 43-30 advantage. 
 
To begin the game NDNU scored first but the Gators Brittaney Allison put SF State out front connecting from behind the arc to give the Gators a 3-1 lead.  Allison scored the first five points for the Gators, hitting a jumper with 15:11 on the clock.
 
Over the next 12 minutes NDNU went on a 18-5 run to take a commanding 21-10 lead.  They held on and went into the intermission up 20.
 
Out of the break the Gators scored first to cut the Argonauts break to 18, from there it was all NDNU who never led by less than 20 from 18:59 on.  The Argonauts held their largest lead of the game with 17 seconds left in the game when Tess Dominguez scored on a layup, their final points of the game.
 
Leading the Argonauts on the afternoon was Taylor Dewees who recorded a game-high 17 points in 23 minutes of action. 
 
The Gators return to action on Tuesday, November 25 when they travel north to take on No. 21 Western Washington in Bellingham.  Tip-off is slated for 5:00 P.M.
