BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The SF State women's basketball team played tough in the opening half against host Western Washington, ultimately the Gators fell to 0-3 in 2014-15 season after falling 76-47 to the Vikings at Carver Gym.
With 2:55 left in the first half
Michelle Sutton hit a jumper from the corner to cut the Vikings lead to one, 30-29. That bucket capped a solid opening frame for the Gators as Western Washington closed out the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 39-29 lead at the intermission.
The 10 point deficit out of the break proved to be too much as the Vikings (3-2) would outscore the Gators 37-18 in the second half. While holding SF State to 20.7 percent shooting going 6-for-29.
Leading the Gators with 12 points was Sutton who went 5-for-16 from the floor and 1-for-3 from deep. She also added five rebounds and five assists in 32 minutes of action. Joining Sutton in double figures was
Brittaney Allison who added 11 points going 4-for-5 from the field and was 3-for-4 from long range.
Taylor Ingraham led the Gators with eight rebounds, SF State as a whole had a solid night on the glass, recording 27 boards, 14 of them on the offensive side of the ball. The second chance points helped propel the Gators to their strong play in the first have, as did the turnovers they created. The Vikings turned the ball over nine times that allowed the Gators to score 10 points.
In the second half the Vikings turned the table on the Gators. Western Washington forced eight SF State turnovers that was converted into 13 points for the host team.
With 11:50 on the clock a three point bucket by the Vikings' Katie Colard effectively put the game on ice as Western Washington went up 15. Their largest lead of the night was 29, with 4:58 in the game. The Vikings' leading scorer was Colard who scored 18 points, all on three point baskets.
The Gators return to action tomorrow night when they travel to Seattle to take on Seattle Pacific at 5:00 p.m.
